Welcome to the KB8QLC amateur radio repeater in Lexington, Kentucky. This repeater is open to any amateur radio operator. It is located in the heart of Lexington, on top of the 33 story Lexington Financial Center. This is Lexington’s tallest building, owned by The Webb Companies. We wish to thank the Webb Brothers for their generous donation of the space for this repeater station. Because of it’s high location, this repeater is used for numerous public service events, and is a vital communications link in Central Kentucky for amateur radio communications during inclement weather and storm season.

This repeater is owned by Mike and Jeanie Dalton Pugh.

General commands:

375 – Tests your touch tone pad. Enter 375, and the string of numbers you wish to test. Example: Key up, enter 37513579. The repeater will respond with “KEYPAD TEST 13579”. Any of the 16 DTMF tones may be entered and tested, with the exception of the “D”, which is interpreted by the controller as an <ENTER> command.

Remote Base Operation:

You may recall the frequency to operate on from the list of frequencies listed below. If there is a frequency that you wish to see added, drop us an email at kb8qlc@arrl.net, and it will be added to the system during the next trip to the site. Some frequencies have undesirable harmonic relationships with other transmitters at the site, and cannot be added, but we’ll try. The current list of frequencies (as of 11/20/02) is listed below.

When you wish to activate the remote base from the UHF side, first select the frequency from the list below that you wish to use, before activating the remote base by entering *XX, where XX is the number listed below.

If you wish to access the UHF repeater, but do not have a UHF radio, you’re not shut out. Set your VHF radio on 146.550 simplex, and enter 5001. (Now you see why we want the remote base to default back to 146.550) Upon receipt of the access command, the remote base will activate, and respond with “KB8QLC REMOTE BASE ON”. You may then operate on 146.55 into the remote base. You will be able to transmit on the repeater, and will hear audio from the repeater as if you were using a UHF radio. This audio will sound to you as a regular 2 meter station. You will not hear the repeater courtesy tones. They will only be transmitted on the UHF repeater. When you are finished using the remote base, enter 5000 to deactivate the remote base. Don’t forget to ID when you are finished.

This repeater is a Motorola GR500 repeater modified for ham radio use, and has been on the air in Lexington since July of 2001. It is privately owned by Mike Pugh KA4MKG and his wife Jeanie Dalton Pugh KB8QLC. There are no mandantory fees or dues required to operate this system. All we ask is that you enjoy your time while on the repeater, and to be nice and play fair.
